India vs Zimbabwe T20 Match : The young Indian team led by Shubman Gill lost to less experienced Zimbabwe by 13 runs in the first T20 International match of the five-match series on Saturday due to the disappointing performance of the batsmen.
Indian bowlers, led by leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, restricted Zimbabwe to 115 runs for nine wickets. But the Indian batsmen faced a lot of difficulty on the bouncy pitch, which lost four wickets in the powerplay and the entire team was reduced to 102 runs in 19.5 overs.
India, which recently won the T20 World Cup, had fielded young players on this tour and was expected to easily win over Zimbabwe. This was India’s first defeat in T20 International in 2024. This is also India’s first defeat against Zimbabwe in eight years.
Shusman Gill during Match Presentation
After the match, Shubman Gill said, “We bowled quite well, but we weakened ourselves in the field. We were not up to the standards and everyone looked a bit tired. We talked about taking time and enjoying our batting but it didn’t happen that way. Halfway we had lost 5 wickets, it would have been best for us if I had stayed there till the end, I am very disappointed with the way I got out and the rest of the match went out of our hands. There was some hope for us but when you are chasing 115 runs and your number 10 batsman is out, you know something is wrong.”
