MS dhoni Batting
The combination of MS Dhoni’s sixes and Ravi Shastri’s commentary really makes for a magical moment for Indian cricket fans. A few days ago, when Dhoni smashed three sixes in the final over against Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya at the Wankhede Stadium, the excitement of the fans was palpable. And then on Friday, when the former Chennai Super Kings captain smashed a reverse six and a 101-metre gigantic six against Lucknow Super Giants, Shastri ji was totally stunned in the commentary box.
The Chennai team was struggling a bit at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow when Dhoni came to the crease as a last hope. In the first over of his match, he swept Mohsin Khan’s delivery through deep extra cover for a boundary and then smashed a very un-Dhoni style six off the very next ball. The fast bowler bowled a slower one on the off side, Dhoni went across the stumps and effortlessly smashed the ball over the wicketkeeper, and Shastri ji was totally stunned in the commentary box.
When Yash Thakur bowled a yorker that was perfect for Dhoni in the next over, the veteran batsman timed it well and smashed a 101-metre six over the cow corner. This was his 65th six in the 20th over of his IPL career.
When Dhoni hit this six, Shastri could not stop himself and said, “This six is amazing, the longest six coming out of MS Dhoni’s arms.” In the end, Dhoni hit two more boundaries in the last three deliveries – one muscled through the off side and one squeezed past backward point. Chennai scored 176 for six.
In an unbeaten 9-ball 28, which included 16 runs in the final over, Dhoni took his 20th-over tally to 772 runs, with a strike rate of 246.64 in his shining IPL career. This season, IPL 2024, he scored 57 runs in just 16 balls, laced with 6 maximums and 4 boundaries.
