Pakistan vs New Zealand T20 Series
Pakistan’s first T20I match against New Zealand is starting on 18 April (Thursday) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This is the first game of the five-match T20I series.
The series is very important for Pakistan as it marks the return of Babar Azam as the captain of the white-ball side. Babar had stepped down from captaincy for all three formats after Pakistan’s unsatisfactory performance in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 and PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf appointed Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi as captains for Test and T20I formats. But, Shaheen was able to lead only one bilateral series, after which Babar was again appointed as the white-ball captain of the senior men’s cricket team.
The series also marks the return of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim to international cricket. Both players had earlier announced international retirement, but have now returned and are competing to make their place in Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
On the other hand, the New Zealand team is playing without its key players, who are busy in the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
