Who is Jake Fraser-McGurk
Pravin Amre, who is the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, praised debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk for making an instant impact against Lucknow Super Giants after two consecutive losses.
Amre said during a press conference on Friday, “Jake’s innings was tremendous. He was batting really well in the nets and showed us that he has the x-factor, he has the ability to hit sixes. If you look at his innings, he hit five sixes and his first two scoring shots were sixes. That’s what we need in this format. We were doing well in the last two games but weren’t able to win. So we needed someone who could make an impact on the game and I think he delivered.
Pravin Amre praised Jake Fraser-McGurk
“Jake is a top-order batsman. We have Warner and Shai Hope played well in the first match (at No.3) and then got injured. We knew he would get a chance and today he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. It is important for any good talent to show that in the middle and there is a huge difference between doing well in the nets and performing in the match. And I am very happy that he showed the kind of batting that is required for this format.”
Amre also praised Kuldeep Yadav for his performance today which helped DC restrict LSG after they had a good start, scoring 58 runs in the powerplay. The assistant coach was particularly impressed by the dismissal of Nicholas Pooran, which was a crucial moment of the game that restricted LSG to 30 runs, despite Ayush Badoni’s fighting half-century.
“The way Kuldeep bowled today and gave Nicholas Pooran the dream ball…he is a match-winning batsman and it was crucial to get him out to restrict them to 160 (167). Yes, Badoni made a 31-ball fifty but the impact of that 160 to 190 margin was reduced (thanks Kuldeep) and we controlled the game. I think Axar [Patel] also played an important role and we had a good period in the middle overs. They had a good powerplay and after that we controlled the game. Credit goes to our spin department,” Amre said.
Along with Kuldeep’s spell of 3-20, the seamers also provided crucial strikes, which brought LSG to 94/7. But they reached 167 thanks to Badoni’s unbeaten 55 off 35 and a 73-run stand with Arshad Khan.
“The season didn’t start well for me. (But) I was very motivated because I was batting well in the nets. I was just backing myself to play an impactful innings, which happened today. I thank KL Rahul and Justin Langer for showing faith in me and giving me the opportunity,” Badoni said. “When I went to bat, I was thinking of taking it till the end and then attacking. If we had played 20 overs, we could have scored 150-plus. In the end, we made 160-plus…(but) we were 20 runs short.
